CNA I

In its more than 30 years of successful operation, the Atucha 1 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), located 100 km away from Buenos Aires City, has generated more than 65,000 million kwh of clean, safe and reliable energy. In that period, 1400 tons of uranium were used, thus avoiding atmospherical pollution that would be produced by the release of contaminant Greenhouse Effect gases such as CO2

Atucha1 NPP has allowed  an important saving of the natural resources with a small environmental impact, preventing the destruction of the Ozone layer (heating of the atmosphere) and the acid rain.

The main constructor was Siemens AG, from the Federal Republic of Germany. The design of the NPP is based on one of the type of PWR (pressure water reactor) and the experience gained in the German reactor 50 MZFR of MWe.

Located close by the Atucha 1 NPP, the Atucha 2 NPP is currently under construction. It will start contributing energy to the country in 2010. It is a nucleo-electric power plant with a power of 745 MWe, which will contribute 692 net electrical MW to the national interconnected system.

When Atucha 2´s turbogroup starts its commercial operation, it will be the greatest single power machine in the national interconnected system.

The engineering and design tasks still to be undertaken for the new NPP will be carried on by Nucleoeléctrica Argentina SA, in association with the scientific and technological resources of the National Commission of Atomic Energy.

SIDERCA

TenarisSiderca is one of the productive centers of Tenaris and it is located in the city of Campana, 65 km away from Buenos Aires City. Tenaris is the world-wide leader in the production and provision of tubular products and services, used in the perforation, tubing, casing and production in the oil industry. They are also used in the provision of special tubing for the energy market, the construction and the automaking industry.

TenarisSiderca makes an intensive use of non-destructive testing applied to the control of the product and processes. It has a stable staff of more than 200 certified operators dedicated to non-destructive inspection.

TenarisSiderca has several facilities of high speed inspection, Computer based equipment for Electromagnetic Testing with more than 60 channels and "phased Array" technology Ultrasounds  with more than 1400 elements.

In addition, it has an Industrial Research Center (CINI) employing more than 120 scientists where research activities in NDT and materials are developed, among others.

In the visit to the plant, we will following the productive process from the BUS, and will visit the  continuous rolling facility for large diameter seamless tubes, where, from the control room we will watch the whole sequence of the Mannesmann tube making process.
